Mercedes-AMG bringing Formula 1 tech to the road with Project One car
Mercedes-AMG is to bring some of its extensive Formula 1 knowledge to the roads with the new Project One, a street-legal hybrid supercar.
The car is set to be unveiled to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show mid-September.
A few teaser details have been revealed about the new supercar’s high-tech powertrain which will be capable of producing around 1,000bhp. The hybrid design includes the F1-based 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engine plus four electric motors.
Mercedes are projecting that the car will have a top speed of 217 mph and an all electric range of 15.5 miles.
Details of the project have been shrouded in a good deal of secrecy, the teaser image released by the company reveals just a silhouette of the vehicle with illuminated front headlights.
The Project One will see a limited production of just 275 vehicles, each one costing just under £2 million.
To what extent the car’s styling will be influenced by the brand’s F1 cars in currently unknown. Mercedes are currently the dominant force in the motorsport with drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas achieving a one-two finish at the recent Italian Grand Prix.
It was Hamilton’s sixth win of the season and puts the British driver and former World Champion back on top of the drivers standings.
