The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter up in America

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van has reached a record number of sales in North America it has been reported.

The original was released in 1995 into the European market to rival the famous Ford Transit. Ever since it has been a huge success, with bosses using it’s high prestige to justify the release over in North America in 2001.

Freightliner took on the task of selling the vehicle, who are themselves the nation’s number one supplier of medium and heavy duty trucks in the whole country. The variants offered in America include the Cargo, Passenger, Mini bus and Cab Chassis and the Crew Van. Mercedes-Benz dealers themselves offered the whole range of Sprinter vans from 2010.

Combining with Freightliner, Mercedes-Benz managed to increase sales of the Sprinter by a tremendous 94 % when taking into account the entire year. Approximately 16,577 vans were sold in 2011. Just 8,559 were sold in 2010. The Mercedes-Benz network itself reported an increase of 172 %.

From large fleet operators to small construction businesses and mom-and-pop food trucks, American consumers are discovering the incredible benefits of Sprinter vans,”

BlueTEC diesel

The 3.0 litre BlueTEC diesel engine has been described as the very best within it’s particular class. The economical benefits are second to none and has become a huge selling point of the vehicle.


There is a storage capacity in the back of 547 cubic feet and can hold approximately 2430 KG. It is very easy to access to, with cargo doors opening a 270 degrees for maximum practicality.


Cargo and passenger vans have a side door which is able to open six foot high and 4’3 inches wide. Stepping into the vehicle is made easy with the step being just 19.9 inches high. That is the lowest in the whole industry.


Safety features include ABS anti lock brakes, brake assist, traction control, ESP stability as well as rollover control.
