2 million SUV sales for Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz have now sold more than 2 million SUV vehicles since their G-Class was introduced 30 years ago.
More SUVs to come?
Boasting an attractive line-up of the G-Class, M-Class, R-Class, the GL-Class and the GLK-Class Mercedes-Benz have been performing extremely well in the luxury SUV market for quite some time. The German car giants will not be stopping there. They plan to release a new coupe inspired utility model as well as more variants of the models mentioned above.
America and China
Mercedes-Benz will be especially thankful to the world’s largest and second largest car markets in the world, China and America. Demand in these two countries soared and helped the company achieve such a great feat. Europe was not one of the main drivers for the company due to a Euro Zone Crisis.
Global sale records
November was a particularly pleasing month for the company as they had delivered a record number of sports utility vehicles across the world. The figure totalled 25,552 which meant an increase of 23.4 per cent. From January to November of 2011, the total number of sports utility vehicles sold was 221,518, which marked another record. Never before has Mercedes-Benz seen such figures.
Dr Joachim Schmidt, who is the Vice President Sales and Marketing for Mercedes-Benz said reiterated the fact that China and America are the two best markets for the company’s SUV range at present. He said “Our entire SUV family is extremely popular among our customers, particularly in the USA and in its second-largest market China. With the launch of our first sports utility vehicle the G-Class more than 30 years ago, we entered a segment in which we are now very successful with a total of five models. The SUVs today are an important pillar of Mercedes-Benz’s growth and have achieved a new sales record in every month since July 2010. The new Mercedes-Benz M-Class, which has enjoyed fantastic customer response to date, will give sales a further boost.”
Out of the models mentioned above, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and the GLK Crossover were two of the main catalysts in helping the company achieve such records. They are the two most popular vehicles across the world. Germany’s most popular sports utility vehicle is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the original SUV from the company. It is also popular in the Middle Eastern car market. <
