Mercedes-Maybach S650 to appear at LA motor show
The company has released a short video on its social media channels, showing off the cars highlights, both interior and exterior. The S650 will sit alongside the existing S600 Mercedes-Maybach saloon.
The S650 is based on the already luxurious Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet, revealed at last year’s Frankfurt motor show, and available for sale since last April. The new edition is expected to feature unique interior and exterior treatments, plus extra equipment. Whereas the S600 saloon has an extended wheelbase compared to the standard S-Class saloon, it is thought that the S650 will keep the standard Cabriolet’s wheelbase.
The designation point of the S650 suggests an upgraded twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine, possibly above the Mercedes-AMG S65, which is the current top of the range. The S65 features 621bhp and can sprint from stationary to 62mph in 4.1 seconds. A small description included on the preview video points to fuel consumption of 23.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 272g/km.
A brief shot of the car’s interior ‘badging’ indicates that only 300 versions of the car are likely to be manufactured, many of these are expected to go to international collectors.
Prices are as yet unknown, but a sizable premium above the S600, which costs from £170,610, is likely.
