The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS

Having looked at the new Mercedes-Benz GLS class, the future of the SUV is going to rapidly change. What Mercedes have accomplished with this vehicle is putting the ‘Sport’ into SUV. But, what is going to make this vehicle so special?

The GLS looks like your standard SUV, except with Mercedes’ luxury edge. What they have accomplished with the exterior is a perfect alteration of the GL. Well, it is basically the GL but, it has added new lines and edges. This simple trick has made the SUV look as if it has lost a lot of weight whilst also looking a lot more aggressive and menacing. The bigger grille and lights have helped in this.

The interior again is almost exactly the same as the GL. This  time though, literally exactly the same in its build, quality and features. The only difference that is recognisable is a new three spoke steering wheel and an upgrade of the infotainment system. Other than the two previously mentioned features, you could think you were in a GL car if you were not driving.

The drive is definitely what separates the GLS and the GL in class. The GLS, like many other vehicles have multiple different buyable options which can increase the power of the car. The differences between the basic and top versions of the GLS are quite incredible. The basic engine in the cheapest model is a turbocharged 24-valve diesel 3.0 litre V-6 with 255hp. With this engine, the GLS can hit top speeds of 130mph and get from 0-60mph in 7.4 seconds. If the top model is the one you are looking to purchase then expect a large twin-turbocharged 32-valve 5.5 litre V-8 engine with 577 hp to be used, and then expect speeds of up to 155mph and, reach 60mph in 4.7 seconds. So, this vehicle is quick, it is very quick for a seven seated SUV.  So internally, the GLS is a step above the other models that have been produced.

With an estimated basic price tag of £45,800 for the basic model, and £85,000 for the top version of the model, this SUV comes at a rather large price for what is a bigger version of another Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
