2016 Paris Motor Show: Mercedes trolls rest of motoring world

2016-Paris-Motor-Show-Mercedes-trolls-rest-of-motoring-worldIn the run up to the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-AMG has shown its mischievous side by cheekily trolling its fans and motoring media alike, by releasing teaser images of a toy.

In the photos posted on the company’s Instagram site, the German car maker has partially revealed what initially appears to be the rear and front grille of what resembles a new high-performance SUV, with the words “A little big something is about to be revealed – soon.”

Quite a few were taken in by the prank, including several high profile UK motoring websites, who speculated, “Mercedes-AMG is preparing an electric surprise for the 2016 Paris motor show”. The story has since been deleted after Mercedes-AMG released a further set of images. The eagerly anticipated ‘electric surprise’ turned out to be this:

If Noddy was to drive a Mercedes, this is no doubt what it would look like. These follow up pictures show a toy for the child who prefers to drive ‘higher end’ vehicles. The mini Merc comes with everything, even a set of working LED lights.

And who said Germans have no sense of humour?

The mini AMG, yet to be officially named, will share a stand at Paris with two full-size drop-top versions of the AMG GT Coupe.

The GT and GT C Roadster both feature retractable soft-tops. The GT Roadster’s twin-turbo V8 engine is capable of 0-100km/h in 4.0-seconds, while the GT C, which has a power increase of 60kW over the standard 350kW edition, can do the same sprint in 3.7-seconds.
