Hamilton pulls out of Mercedes tyre test ahead of US Grand Prix
The Mercedes World Champion was scheduled to test the 2017 Pirelli tyres with a modified ‘mule’ car on Wednesday in Barcelona, but teammate and current leader of the driver’s leader board Nico Rosberg instead took on the duties.
With four races remaining of the current F1 season, Hamilton is currently 33 points behind the German. He was replaced at the test on Thursday by reserve driver Pascal Wehrlein.
Mercedes have brushed off the incident saying there is “no concern” ahead of the US Grand Prix at Austin.
A team spokesman said: “Lewis had some discomfort in his foot after training on Tuesday,
“It was agreed he wouldn’t test so he could rest it and get physio to be in good shape for Austin, which he will be.”
The British driver came in for criticism at the last race weekend in Japan for playing on Snapchat during a news conference. He then quickly left the circuit to return to Europe.
The US Grand Prix takes place in Austin on Sunday, 23rd October.
