Mercedes-Benz SL will start from £72,495
Sounds quite expensive don’t it, but if you are interested rest assure that the car is indeed worth every penny. The Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster will be released at the start of June for a whopping £72,495 for the entry level version.
The car’s main rivals will be the Jaguar XK and the Porsche 911. Both companies are sure to be looking over their shoulder following the arrival of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL.
The SL 350
There will be just two variants on offer, the SL 350 and the SL 500. The SL 350 has a 3.5 litre V6 engine capable of hitting 306 BHP. It’s acceleration is mightily fast to hitting 0 – 62 MPH in just 5.9 seconds. The vehicle also contains BlueDirect direct injection, a technology used by Mercedes-Benz to enhance the efficiency and power upon the car. The vehicle is extremely economical, hitting 37.7 MPG. That’s a tremendous improvement upon the previous vehicle. This particular variant costs £72,495.
The SL 500
The Mercedes-Benz SL 500 has a 4.7 litre engine which is able to blast out 435 BHP from it’s twin turbo V8 engine. This version is more powerful yet more economical, hitting 30.7 MPG and accelerating from 0 – 62 MPH in just 4.6 seconds. The car tax for this type of vehicle will also be quite reasonable at £270 per year since it emits 214g/km of C02.
Future AMG models if you require more power
If that isn’t enough power for you there will also be two AMG models available to purchase. The SL 63 AMG will be able to hit a maximum of 537 BHP with the SL 65 hitting 630 BHP. Both are extremely quick off the mark, hitting 0 – 62 MPH in approximately 4.3 seconds.
High quality standard features upon both
As standard there will be luxurious features throughout (as expected) such as Bluetooth, satellite navigation and dual air conditioning. Both cars will also get 18 inch alloys wheels fitted as standard.
Greater use of aluminium
This time round the Mercedes-Benz SL will adopt the use of aluminium more extensively. This will help the weight of the vehicle to be reduced, naturally enhancing the SL’s economical aspects as well as the speed. Altogether the car is said to have lost up to 140 kg, which is a largely considerable amount.
