The history of the Mercedes-Benz star
The Mercedes-Benz star was first trademarked in 1925, just ahead of the merger between DMG (Daimler) and Benz & Cie, which took place the following year creating the brand we know today.
The three points of the star were meant to symbolise the use of Daimler engines on land, sea and in the air. The earliest editions also featured Benz’s laurel wreath.
1933 saw the first version of the modern logo – a black circle with the star silhouetted inside. Mercedes-Benz continued to feature the lettering and wreath until the 1990s when the logo was simplified to just the star within the circle.
