Daimler’s car sharing scheme set to expand
Named car2go, the sharing scheme comes under the Daimler AG Financial services bracket. It has become a great success in America and is a market leader for car mobility.
Across the world there are over 70,000 customers
What does the scheme actually entail? The car2go scheme allows people who are situated or work in the cities of Washington D.C and Portland with a cost effective transport solution. The President & CEO of the car2go sharing scheme, Nicholas Cole, explained exactly why the scheme works so well. He said “In each car2go city, we provide a car sharing service that helps ease congestion, reduce emissions and provide a viable auto mobility solution that complements public transportation. The people who live, work and visit the vibrant cities of Washington, D.C. and Portland already embrace a variety of transportation options, and we are excited to bring them the unsurpassed convenience and flexibility of the car2go way of car sharing.”
Why car2go has been so successful
Charged by the minute
Whether you use the car for just 5 minutes, a whole day or more, you will get charged by the minute. There is no minimum time usage upon each car. There is also no forced return time. The main attraction is that parking, fuel, insurance and maintenance costs are covered by car2go and not the driver.
Ease of finding a car
Members are able to gain access to a car2go vehicle immediately. There are many methods to locate an on demand vehicle. These include using a smart phone app, calling the customer call centre or by finding one by you on the street on dedicated parking bays. Reservations do not need to be made as each member is able to get unlimited access to vehicles 24 hours a day.
Drop the car off at any specified parking space
car2go vehicles are able to be dropped off at any specified type of parking space. There is no need for the vehicle to be placed back where it came from. Once the car is dropped off, the rental agreement is ended with a swipe of a member’s card with the car becoming instantly available for the next member to drive.
