The Mercedes-Benz SLK Open generation from 2004 until 2011 was perhaps one of the best roadsters ever made.
It’s a wonderfully sporty car to drive and looks the part too. We take a look at just how great the car is in our review today.
The drive
The Mercedes-Benz SLK Open is a steady and firm car drive, at speed or even with the roof down. The actual drive is very engaging with wonderfully responsive steering. Taking corners at speed is made easy with the cars excellent handling as is cruising along the motorway at low speeds in a more relaxing fashion.
Performance
One variant is the Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 which has a modest 1.8 litre engine. However don’t let that fool you. The engine is still capable of bringing about plenty of excitement. If it’s pure speed and power that you want, the 5.4 litre V8 engine produces 355 BHP in the SLK 55 AMG model. Below that comes a choice of 280 BHP V6 and a 350 BHP V6, both of which are very powerful drives.
Practicality
There is quite a bit of practicality throughout, despite being a relatively small sports car. There is a great amount of space for two adults to sit in comfort. The boot has a great amount of storage space especially when the roof is left up.
Airscarf
Airscarf is a great option for the winter months. It blows warm air around your neck making the ride that extra bit more pleasurable. It is available as an optional extra.
Economy
The SLK 200 model achieves 32.5 MPG which is a figure in which many people may not have expected to achieve, considering that is a sports car after all. The AMG SLK 55 model doesn’t do too bad either on that front achieving just 23.5 MPG.
A wonderful sports car which has plenty of different variant to suit every driver, the Mercedes-Benz SLK Open is one of the best two seater sports cars available on the UK market. It has plenty of attributes to make it one of the most attractive cars on our roads on almost every level. The new generation has fared as well so far as it had a lot to live up to. This particular generation has now been discontinued but looking out for a well maintained one is sure to bring plenty of excitement.
