Mum gives Mercedes C Class raffle prize to daughter
What do you do when you win a Mercedes as a prize? If you’re Claire Dunning of Thornaby the answer is, you give it away. When Clare scooped the winning ticket in a fundraising raffle in aid of the Norton-based autism charity Daisy Chain, she was shocked to find she had won a Mercedes C Class C220.
She said, “It came out of the blue, completely unexpected, I couldn’t believe it.”
After being told the good news by former Premier League referee Jeff Winter, Clare decided to donate the prize to her daughter Jenny, who was on her way round to visit.
Jenny said: “This will be fantastic as we currently only have one car that we have to juggle between the two of us.”
Glen Lang, of Bell Truck and Van which gifted the raffle organisers the prize was happy to hand over the keys. He said: “This car was purchased for a sponsored fundraising event to drive from Newcastle to Monaco and back in four days.
“The car never missed a beat and completed 2,620 miles, averaging 48.7mpg across the trip. I’m sure Jenny will enjoy many happy miles of motoring in her new car.”
