New Mercedes-Benz B-Class launched in Australia

The second generation of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class has hit the Australian car market. Mercedes-Benz has described the car as one that has improved greatly in terms of the driving experience that it can offer. The Sports Tourer will right lower giving the car a sportier and a more aerodynamic effect.

Inspiration for the future

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is more important to the company than some may think. The car’s foundations derive from the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Both vehicles will inspire future models from Mercedes-Benz including a four door coupe as well as a compact SUV. Rumours suggest that the four door coupe will be named the CLA.

Electro mechanical steering

The new B-Class will contain an excellent electro mechanical steering system. This helps improve the efficiency of the car’s steering.

The different variants offered

The range will consist of three different models, including the B180, B200 and the B200 CDI.

The performance of all models

The B180 and the B200 will both the same four cylinder 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine. This will come with direct injection technology.  The B180 variant will contain 90kW along with 200Nm of torque. The car will not be the fastest, hitting 0 – 62 MPH in 10.2 seconds. Upgrading to the B200 gives 115kW of power and 250 Nm of torque. The car will reach 0 – 62 MPH in 8.4 seconds.

The only diesel variant

The B200 CDI is the only available diesel variant in the range. It will contain a 1.8 litre direct injection turbocharged engine which is able to produce 100kW and 300Nm. The car can hit 0 – 62 MPH in 9.3 seconds.

Start Stop technology

New Mercedes-Benz B-Classes contain Eco mode with start / stop functionality. This particular piece of technology seems to have become a standard amongst all luxury car manufacturers.

Seven speed dual clutch transmission

The seven speed dual clutch transmission is also standard amongst most models, enhancing the driving experience and efficiency of the car.

New alloy wheels

The new B-Class B180 is also a lot more stylish too, coming with 10 spoke 16 inch alloy wheels. Upgrading to the B200 or the B200 CDI will give you larger 17 inch alloy wheels.

New feature inside the cabin

Within the interior, the car will have a 5.8 inch colour display with active parking assist, Bluetooth Connectivity ability, a CD player and an iPod connector.
