The Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid

The Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid when launched will be known as the most economical luxury world. It will be made available as either a saloon vehicle or as an estate. The car will be based upon the E 250 CDI model.

Wonderful economical technology

The lithium-ion batteries do not take up any extra space within, giving the E-Class all of it’s typical practicality benefits. As you may have expected the car will come with start stop technology, a standard in almost every new car coming off the production line. This greatly assists in keeping the fuel economy as low as possible. Regenerative braking has also become a standard amongst the luxury car line-up, with it being a wonderfully advantageous feature. Neatly climate control does not switch off during start / stop mode.

Decent amount of power

The 4 cylinder diesel engine is able to produce a total of 204 BHP as well as 500 Nm of torque. It’s combination with the electric motor delivers economy of the highest level. The car offers plenty of refinement with hardly any engine noise too.

The E 300 the first of many

Mercedes-Benz are aiming to regain the number one position in the world of being the best luxury car manufacturer. BMW currently hold the title with Audi close behind. As part of that plan, Mercedes-Benz are downsizing on their fuel consumption without comprising cars for practicality, luxury and performance, a very tough task indeed. The Mercedes-Benz E 300 will be a great representation of that strategy.

35% better

Compared to the E 300 CDI, the closet variant, the car is 35 per cent better off in terms of fuel consumption as well as C02 emissions.

Dependencies on the electric engine

When the driver is carrying out simple manoeuvres such as reverse parking, the car will use electric power alone in order to save on fuel consumption. When accelerating the car is also quite powerful, even though the E 300 BlueTEC uses it’s electric engine alone to do so. This has at least 250 Nm of power available at all times.

The electric motor also has a Boost function available to be utilised, which helps during instances such as overtaking.

The engine also adapts to when the car is cruising (e.g on the motorway). The fuel consumption is optimised to be as efficient as possible.

It sounds like a wonderful car and we cannot wait for the Mercedes-Benz E 300 to be released here in the UK.
