The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in New Zealand

The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG roadster is set to hit the New Zealand automotive market this year.

Before anyone gets too excited, it must be noted that the car will be a very special edition in the country. It is so special in fact that just a handful of them will be released in the country.

“Ultimate open air driving experience”

The lucky few will get to feel the “ultimate open air driving experience” as the SLS AMG is described.

More expensive than the Coupe

It will cost more than $450,000 (which is the price for the coupe version) with the price being more as extra options are selected.

There have been over 80 coupes sold in the country already. There have been 10 down payments on the roadster from Australia. The roadster version may be as popular in New Zealand.

The roadster version was indeed built alongside the coupe. Both are handmade to an extent, making it one of the most desirable cars on the planet.

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL successor

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has been described as the spiritual successor of the 300 SL from the 1950’s. This again is another attraction to perspective buyers.

Change in design

The roadster will contain frameless doors and a soft top. The coupe SLS AMG had a solid roof and different types of doors.

As there of no hard roof like on the Coupe, the roadster has received some touching up on styling. The car will now receive a different pair of side skirts as well as various performance enhancing design changes.

The car will be available in either black, red or beige.

The roof is able to be raised in just 11 seconds. When the car is driving, the maximum speed it will be able to reach is 50 km/h whilst executing this function. There is 3 litres less capacity space within the boot due to the roof being a hard top.

Engine and driving models

The engine is same, with the SLS AMG roadster containing the 6.2 litre V8. The car uses a seven speed dual clutch too. The four driving modes comprise of controlled efficiency, sport, sport plus as well as manual.

The ones who get to own and drive the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster.  are certainly very lucky and will have plenty of fun. It’s a car only available to the rich.
