The new SLK, more powerful than ever…

News has been released about a new SLK which will be the best yet. Mercedes-Benz has pulled out all the stops to develop the SLK AMG 55.

We’ll take a look at some of the features the car has as well as what it will be like to drive and own too.

Performance and economy

The new 5.5 Litre engine which is also a V8 will produce a huge 422 BHP. The model will also give produce 33.6mpg and emit 195g/km of C02, an outstanding rating for such a powerful roadster. Figures mentioned show a huge improvement on economy compared to the previous model. Torque produced at its maximum will be around 540Nm. The car’s top speed will be limited to 155mph and can reach 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds.  The car will clearly strike a balance between excellent performance and maximum fuel economy.


Typical AMG styling of the SLK will be ever present throughout the car’s exterior. AMG spoiler lip with AMG light wheels will be added. Chrome designed twin exhausts will be installed too.


The Mercedes-Benz start/stop feature will be available within the car. The effect of this piece of technology brings about better fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions. The engine is stopped when the car id idle. The car is started again once the brake is let go and the acceleration pedal is pressed.


The AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission allows the rear of the car to be powered. It is an automatic transmission that is available in three modes

  • Manual (M)
  • Sport (S)
  • Controlled Efficiency (C)


The car boots excellent mechanical engineering to deliver brilliant handling. The AMG Direct-Steer system caters for both smooth driving and speed related performance driving, with responsive steering for either mode.

Suspension, stabilisers plus more features have been designed and installed differently to give the car great balance when taking corners at speed.

There is however a different package available that gives optimises the car’s handling. Different features within this selected option include an AMG performance steering wheel, differently configured brake discs at the back and front, AMG Performance suspension plus more.

When and how much?

The car has not yet been priced, however it is estimated to be available for around £60,000.It is expected to be available to purchase early next year.
